- Veluthu Kattu (1983) is a Malayalam drama film directed by P. G. Viswambharan, based on Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's novel of the same name. It stars Mohanlal, who also co-produced the movie along with Gopi Krishna and Vishnu Varma under their production house named 'Royal Enterprises'. The story is about three friends who are struggling to make ends meet and support their families - Brahmachari (Mohanlal), Kutti (Sreenivasan) and Kunju (Kunjandi). For Brahmachari, the biggest problem is his wife Gangamma (Anuradha) who is always nagging at her husband, an animal collector. She finally decides to leave the house in search for her own job. Brahmachari however refuses to leave home because his mother needs him to work in the household. Kutti and Kunju are good friends with Mohanlal and he takes care of them when they are in financial difficulties. The story revolves around their friendship and how Kutti manages to get back his wife's money from a corrupt man, Kunju's attempts to develop a business venture, while Brahmachari struggles hard to provide for his family. This movie won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Music was composed by Devanarayanan, S S Rajan and P. G. Viswambharan. Lyrics were written by Gopalakrishnan, Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, P. G. Viswambharan and Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. The story initially was conceived by Viswambharan's mother, who was suffering from cancer at the time of inception of the film's script development stage, which had to be rewritten by Viswambharan himself. She succumbed before she could complete the script for this movie. Despite this, the movie was still completed and released successfully with Mohanlal as its lead.The movie won the National Film Award for best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film is based on a novel written by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai. The novel was titled "Vallathu Kattu". After the success of the first two movies "Dharma" and "Avalude Manushulu", a third installment produced by Gopi Krishna, a director from GK Films, was scheduled to be directed by P. G. Viswambharan, an upcoming director from GNM Studios, under his production company Royal Enterprises. The film is said to be an adaptation of the novel "Vallathu Kattu" written by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai. Mohanlal was signed up to play the lead in "Veluthu Kattu" along with Murali, Chellam, Shobhana and Devan. A special appearance was also planned for Mammootty, but due to his busy schedule in America at the time of production, his appearance in the movie was deferred. The film began production in late 1982. The title for this movie was changed from "Vallathu Kattu" to "Veluthu Kattu". cfa1e77820
